Saturday Night Live has been one of the most valuable shows for the comedy industry ever to air on television. The show itself has spawned several successful comedy careers both in movies and stand up. One of the best parts about Saturday Night Live is the celebrity hosts and musical guests. Watching serious actors and celebrities act really goofy on comedy skits is just hilarious to me!

Saturday Night Live makes lasting comedy careers
The cast usually goes on to have pretty amazing careers and have become very well known in the comedy industry. Without Saturday Night Live we probably wouldn’t have actors like Dan Aykroyd, Will Ferrell, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Robert Downey, Jr., Bill Murray, Mike Myers, Chevy Chase, Billy Crystal, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller… the list is staggering. Sometimes the skits can be adapted into a movie which can either be good or bad. Of the 11 or so movies Saturday Night Live has produced, about half are really funny. Sometimes comedy sketches don’t translate that well on to the big screen, then again sometimes they do! Lets get to some movie explanations.
5 of my favorite Saturday Night Live Movies
- Wayne’s World (1992): Two slackers set out on a mission to promote their public access television show.
- Coneheads (1993): An alien couple scouts Earth for world domination and get ditched here. They have a daughter and struggle to fit in.
- The Ladies Man (2000): A struggling radio talk show host searches for a mystery woman and avoids a gang of angry husbands.
- A Night at the Roxbury (1998): Two idiot brothers with a dream about opening a revolutionary night club struggle to make it inside one.
- MacGruber (2010): A highly decorated ex-military badass that always messes things up gets revenge on the man that blew up his wife.
Saturday Night Live may not make a ton of movies, but when they do they can be pretty funny!
